Crystal Lake, Harrison
Crystal Lake in Harrison is one of the most popular spots in the area because of its wonderful sandy public beach, convenient boat launch, and welcoming picnic area. Here you can sit in the shade of white birch trees and gaze down the lake to Deer Hill and Hawk Mountain on the northern horizon. Adjacent to the picnic area is a ballfield and a playground for children of all ages.
Two miles long and a mile wide, Crystal Lake has a surface area of 446 acres, a maximum depth of 65 feet, and a water quality rating of "slightly above average" as determined by the Maine Department of Environmental protection.
According to the Lakes Environmental Association, Crystal Lake is annually stocked with brook trout and land locked salmon from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. These coldwater fish find good habitat in the lakeâ€™s cool and well oxygenated deep waters. In addition, healthy bass populations, white perch, yellow perch, hornpout and chain pickerel are also found within Crystal Lake's waters.
Crystal Lake is home to Camp Pinecliff, a summer camp for girls, and Vacationland Campsites, both located on the northern shore. Route 117 follows its eastern shoreline providing pleasant views of the open water and surrounding hills. Its western shoreline is more recently developed and here you can find many, newer year round homes and cottages.
