Pennesseewassee Lake, Norway
Lake Pennesseewassee in Norway, also known as Norway Lake, is about five miles long and a half mile wide, covers 987 acres in surface area, and measures nearly 12 miles around its perimeter. It has a maximum depth of 48 feet, a mean depth of 18 feet, and a water quality rating of "average" as determined by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Among the fish species found here are brown trout, pickerel, salmon, large and smallmouth bass, splake, and white and yellow perch. There are two marinas on Norway Lake located on Rte 117 and a public boat launch located at Pennessewassee Park on Rte. 118.
Each July the Western Foothills Land Trust hosts the Norway Triathlon. This popular and fun sprint triathlon takes place on and around Norway Lake. Its goal is to promote healthy and active lifestyles, to conserve natural resources and to help local businesses and local economy. The Land Trust owns Roberts Farm and Preserve, a 150-acre former dairy farm on the shores of the lake.
